Jeremiah 50:2

Declare you among the nations, and publish, and set up a standard; publish, and conceal not: say, Babylon is taken, Bel is confounded, Merodach is broken in pieces; her idols are confounded, her images are broken in pieces.

Declare. This is grand. Let all the captives publish these tidings. (Calmet) Bel Bel and Merodach were worshipped for gods by the men of Babylon. (Challoner) Merodach might be an ancient king deified. (Calmet) These greatest of their idols could neither save the people nor themselves. (Worthington)
