Flesh. The inferior appetite wars against the spirit, Galatians v. 17., and Matthew xxvi. 41. (Haydock) Not, in the ordinary course. This does not contradict the faith of the resurrection, which is elsewhere clearly expressed. (St. Jerome) (Calmet) Man may go astray, but cannot be converted by his own efforts, Proverbs ii. 19.
