And Judah went with Simeon his brother, and they slew the Canaanites that inhabited Zephath, and utterly destroyed it. And the name of the city was called Hormah.

(Calmet) Septuagint, "they anathematized it, and utterly destroyed it, and they called the city Exolethreusis, "utter ruin. "(Haydock) Whether they had engaged themselves by vow to do so, or they treated the city in this manner in thanksgiving for the victory, is uncertain. (Menochius)
