For God wishes not His temple to be a house of traffic, but the dwelling-place of holiness, nor does Hefix the priestly service in a salable performance of religion, but in a free and willing obedience. Therefore our Lord teaches generally that all worldly bargains should be far removed from the temple of God; but spiritually He drove away the money-changers, who seek gain from the Lord's money, that is, the divine Scripture, lest they should discern good and evil.
