With these two chains, according to the Roman custom, St. Peter must have been fastened to the two soldiers, that guarded him. Yet Peter slept secure, trusting in that Providence which sleepeth not.
See Peter sleeping, and not in distress or fear! That same night, after which he was to be brought forth, he slept, having cast all upon God. Between two soldiers, bound with two chains. cf. 1 Peter 5:7 Mark, how strict the ward! And says, Arise.
