He that says, I know him, and keeps not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.

Clement Of Alexandria
He that saith he knoweth Him, that Isaiah , with true and saving knowledge, such as leads to eternal life, and keepeth not His commandments is a liar. As the Apostle said ( Romans 1:21) of the philosophers who knew God, but only in a speculative and barren way, "When they knew God, they glorified Him not as God."
He that says he knoweth him To know, in this and many other places, is not taken for a speculative knowledge alone, but is joined with a love of God, and an earnest desire of serving him and keeping his commandments. (Witham)
