Then Jephthah gathered together all the men of Gilead, and fought with Ephraim: and the men of Gilead struck down Ephraim, because they said, You Gileadites are fugitives of Ephraim among the Ephraimites, and among the Manassites.

Fugitive. Vile and timid, so that his brethren around him might destroy him at any time. (Menochius) Galaad dwelt in the midst of the descendants of Joseph.
