As he went out of the gate another maid. St. Mark says, he went out before the court. By the Greek, he seems to have gone out of the court into the porch. He went from the fire, but returned thither again: for by St. John, (xviii. 25,) this second denial was at the fire. St. Luke seems to say it was a man, that spoke to him: and St. John, that they were several that spoke to him: it is likely both a girl and a man. (Witham)
