So David brought not the ark home to himself to the city of David, but carried it aside into the house of Obed-edom the Gittite.

And for this cause he brought it not unto himself, that is, into the city of David, but turned it away into the house of (a) Obededom the (b) Getheite.
(a) Obededom was a Levite, (c. 15. v. 18.) and therefore more meet to keep the ark:
(b) Called a Getheite because he had dwelt in the town of Geth.
